HSH Nordbank Arena: The letters are on the roof

HSV player Frank Rost inaugurates stadium model at Miniatur Wunderland

Hamburg, 20 August 2007 – 200 hours of work with Pattex, paintbrushes and tweezers, then the feat was accomplished: the conversion work on the HSH Nordbank Arena is complete. The model makers at Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg’s Speicherstadt warehouse district calmly brought together what has belonged together since the start of the new Bundesliga season: Bundesliga football club HSV and the arena’s namesake HSH Nordbank.

Two blue, white and black HSV diamonds and the logo of its namesake HSH Nordbank with the North Star are now displayed on the roof of the miniature arena. ‘The model gives a good impression of how outstanding the HSV diamond and HSH Nordbank logo will look in reality,’ said Bernhard Blohm, Head of Group Communications at HSH Nordbank, as he unveiled the mini stadium today.

In fact, the new club and bank logos will only be placed on the roof of the real HSH Nordbank Arena in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld in a few more weeks. HSV player Frank Rost and team manager Marinus Bester helped unveil the stadium model – with champagne, fireworks and a light show. ‘I’m particularly pleased that the HSV diamonds are finally on the stadium roof. You can also see now that our colours match those of our new sponsor perfectly,’ said Rost.

For Frederik Braun, who was in charge of the conversion work at Miniatur Wunderland, the conversion of the miniature stadium was a foregone conclusion as soon as he heard about the change of sponsor. ‘I’ve been an HSV fan for as long as I can remember and I’m still head over heels in love with my home city of Hamburg,’ says Braun. He found it ‘absolutely fitting’ that a Hamburg-based company would give the arena its name.

The HSH Nordbank Arena in Miniatur Wunderland, which measures around two square metres, was built in 2003 in 1200 hours of work. With 12,000 visitors in the pin-sized stadium, it is always sold out. The conversion took 25 working days, during which not only the roof signage but also the advertising on the stairs and walls of the stadium was changed to HSH Nordbank.
