Building land is auctioned off for charity
Since Monday, 15 January 2007, Miniatur Wunderland has been auctioning off five plots of land in sunny Ticino for a good cause via ebay. The purchase price includes the construction of a dream house and the design of the property in the spirit of the highest bidder.
Meanwhile, the expansion of the world’s largest model railway continues. The peaks of the Swiss Alps are now breaking through the ceiling of the 3rd floor, are wrapped in wire and will soon be covered in snow.
Meanwhile, south of the high mountain ranges, in sunny and tranquil Ticino, a very special village is being built. Here, five of the highest bidders can build their own house and even do something good for those in need.
Miniatur Wunderland has provided five plots of land in a prominent location, which are between 384 and 782 cm² in size. Since Monday 15 January 2007, anyone can bid on these plots via ebay. The campaign is off to a phenomenal start – one day after the start of the first auction, over 3,000 people have already expressed an interest in the plots and the bid is already over €1,000.
The proceeds from the auction will go to various aid organisations such as ‘Ein Herz für Kinder’ or ‘SOS-Kinderdörfer’.
The highest bidder is presented with the ownership certificate in a festive ceremony. The Miniatur Wunderland modellers will then build the dream house and design the property according to the buyer’s specifications. In addition, the owner has the opportunity to remodel his house every year, park new cars in the garage or integrate new family members into the house. And, of course, they have the right to enter Wunderland free of charge at any time during opening hours to spend a few sunny hours in their holiday home.
After the fifth year in a row with record visitor numbers (over 870,000 visitors in 2006), we want to continue to use the attention we receive to support others who have not been so lucky in their lives. That’s why we always try to collect donations for good projects with funny ideas. We hope that this campaign will enable us to support five great organisations.
